A Brief History

The Sweet & Nut Shop opened its doors in 1968, just a few doors up from our current location. Nestled in the heart of Melbourne’s renowned Mediterranean precinct, the Shop celebrated Middle-Eastern cuisine and culture and built a tremendous following of loyal customers eager to partake in the authentic Middle-Eastern sweets baked on-site.

In 1980, we made the short move down to 250 Russell Street, where we have remained ever since. It is here that we have continued the legacy of our original store in the celebration of Middle-Eastern cuisine and culture and established the Sweet & Nut Shop as an iconic Melbourne institution.

The Sweet & Nut Shop Today

The Sweet & Nut Shop has now been in the same family for over 50 years. We continue to pride ourselves on providing the best quality produce, at the best possible price and offering our customers a level of service that is truly exemplary. You may not feel like you’re stepping back in time when you visit our store, but there is character and familiarity that only a rich history could bring.
