We’ve just got in some amazing Organic Biodynamic Raw Australian Almonds. Of course, being organic they taste and look completely different to our Natural Raw Australian Almonds, but they’re also the first Biodynamic nut to be stocked in the Sweet & Nut Shop and I thought I’d share a bit of information about Biodynamic Farming.
Essentially, biodynamic farming is a way of farming organically, so there are no toxic chemicals, synthetic pesticides and fertilisers used. The difference between simply “organic” and “biodynamic”, is that biodynamics includes the use of “cosmic rhythms”.
I’ll admit, it sounds a bit silly, but don’t read too much into the name. “Cosmic rhythms” are kind of like the concept of tides – the sun, moon, stars etc. determine the quality of light that reaches the plants. So biodynamic farmers use a specific calendar that tells them the optimum times to plant, fertilise and harvest their crops.
The way that biodynamic farms operate is more ecologically orientated than organic farms, and there’s more of a philosophical element involved regarding the earth, its creatures and nature. For this reason, biodynamic farms are more sustainable than conventional organic farms and have the potential to produce higher-quality crops over a longer period of time.
Our Biodynamic Raw Australian Almonds are in store now! For more information contact the Sweet & Nut Shop here.
